We had an incredibly fun family outing on Tuesday, when we took the girls to see VeggieTales: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything. It was playing FOR FREE at our local Regal Cinema as a part of their Family Film Festival.
The girls have seen the movie on DVD before, but never at the theater. They could hardly contain their excitement! They loved the fact that they could look back and see the projector in the little window, just like the story in one of our current library books, Curious George Goes to the Movies!
Just when they thought it couldn’t get any better, the movie stopped playing. This might be considered a problem by some, but not to our family. You see, this is exactly what happened to Handy Manny and his tools when they went to the movies! The only thing that would have made it any better would have been for Manny’s tools to entertain us while the problem was fixed!! After a few minutes, the film resumed and we enjoyed the rest of the show.
Until recently I didn’t know that theaters offer free or discounted movies for kids in the summer. I did a little research, and I’ve listed some links below to some major theaters and their kids’ movie deals. I’m sure they are making plenty of money on all the popcorn, drinks, and candy they’re selling, but still, it’s nice of them to offer free and reduced admissions for families in the summer. It’s a great outing for kids, and it’s nice to have an air conditioned option for super hot days as well!
Regal Cinema’s Free Family Film Festival – Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 AM, two movies are shown for free, take your pick. First come first serve…there are no tickets, you just get in line and go in (get there early)!
Cinemark’s Summer Movie Clubhouse – Special showings on selected weekday mornings, tickets are only $1.00.
Carmike Cinemas’ Summer Kids Series – $1 movie, $1 popcorn, $1 drink.
Malco Cinemas’ Kid’s Summer Fest – Special showings are $2.00, see theater list for specific details. A portion of the ticket price goes to charity.
I know there are other theater chains out there, but these are the ones I’m familiar with. Check out your local theaters if they aren’t listed, because they may have similar deals going on this summer! Enjoy the show!

I wasn’t contacted in any way by any of these companies. I’m just sharing a great deal that my family enjoyed!

This would be fun when my little one gets older.
