Welcome to my Gift Idea themed post for Works for Me Wednesday!
This morning, my sweet five year old shared one of her favorite Christmas moments with me. We started this tradition two Christmases ago, after I remembered hearing about it from a friend.
On Christmas Eve, our girls are allowed to open one gift. It is not exactly a surprise, but they love it anyway. The gift is a new pair of pajamas, freshly washed and ready to wear. Once the gift is opened, the girls put on their new pajamas and get all cozy with us in the living room. Then we read the Christmas story together, enjoy the lights on the tree, and they go to bed. It really is one of the most special times for our family at Christmas.
Giving them new pajamas really is a lot of fun, and it’s also a very useful and practical gift. Every child can use a new pair of pajamas (at least mine can), and there’s just something extra cozy about putting on the new pajamas, reading about Jesus’ birth, and going to bed in great anticipation of Christmas morning. It is a fun Christmas tradition that definitely works for our family!

I do the same thing in my home..
We did this when I was growing up! I now buy my daughter new PJ’s too!
Love that – you’re right, that would be so cozy!
No way! This is what we do! Only I make them all. And not just for my seven, but for the nieces that will be with us Christmas morning too. And last year I decided that ALL the nieces needed them.
I think this is a lovely tradition. I wish I had started this when my kids were small. Although I think even my big kids (teenagers) wouldn’t mind some new pj’s!
We had the same tradition growing up. One present to be opened on Christmas Eve and it was always new pajamas. We loved it!

We have always done this too … BUT since one of Beth’s nieces lives with me … we did new Christmas pjs in Thanksgiving stockings for everyone. So, she’ll get the pjs from Beth on Christmas Eve along with a new webkinz to sleep hold while “visions of sugarplums dance in her head.”
Love this idea! My sister in-law does this, and I think I might start this year! Cause I NEED SOME NEW ONES!
We do the same thing. It really helps when I have pictures with no dates on them (a few of my children look very, very alike as babies!). I can pull all the pics together based on jammies!
We do this, too and love it! I get coordinating pjs for my 3 kids so it makes for the cutest pictures on Christmas morning when they are unwrapping gifts beneath the tree in their matching jammies!
How fun that so many of you do the same thing! It is a super cozy, sweet tradition!
We have the same tradition in my family. It is so nice to wake up on Christmas morning in new jammies!
