I’m joining in for 5 Minute Friday at The Gypsy Mama today. Here goes…
Motherhood should come with...
Sleep coupons, mind-reading capabilities, endless reserves of patience, wisdom beyond our years, a flowing fountain of encouragement…endless grace. The list could go on forever.
As I started making my list, I realized something. I have every single one of these things at my disposal.
The best rest I could ever find is in the Lord. And I am amazed time and time again at how He has enabled me to function when my body was beyond exhausted.
The fruit of the Spirit provides all the patience (and other virtues) I will ever need as a mother.
His Word reminds us that He will give wisdom to any who ask freely. I just have to ask, and He is faithful every time.
When I turn my focus to Him, He brings the encouragement and strength I need for each day.
He gives all the grace I will ever need, and He reminds me to give grace to my children.
So why is motherhood such a challenge? Perhaps it’s because I often try to do it in my own strength, relying on my own resources rather than the One who is my true Source. In and of myself I will never be enough. I wasn’t intended to be.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.Proverbs 3:5-6

Great post I love this phrase, “So why is motherhood such a challenge? Perhaps it’s because I often try to do it in my own strength, relying on my own resources rather than the One who is my true Source.” Why is it that I often try to do it alone when He is there waiting to guide me through. I am thankful for His Grace!
Loved reading your thoughts, Erin! Thanks for sharing and for pointing to the Word of God. Hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

How easy it is to forget … and long for more, only to be reminded that it is here, right here, in Him! Thank you for your reminder and your words!

Beautiful – we can only pour out what we’ve been filled with. I need this reminder to spend more time with Him, so I’m prepared to give to my kids from that overflow of love, grace, wisdom & patience.
Love, love, loving this! All of it is SO true, 100%! What a superb post. Thank you for sharing your 5 minutes. I’m so glad I stopped in via The Gypsy Mama Tweeting about your post on Twitter!

Yes, I love this post, too. And what a powerful ending: “In and of myself I will never be enough. I wasn’t intended to be.” Truth!

“…So why is motherhood such a challenge? Perhaps it’s because I often try to do it in my own strength, relying on my own resources rather than the One who is my true Source….” How true! I think this goes for a good part of life, especially any thing that has to do with relationships:)
