Welcome to Closing Time! My name is Erin, and I’m glad you’re here! I love coffee, conversation, and writing whenever I can find a moment. I’m a homeschooling mom of two little girls (ages 7 and 5), and my husband Phil and celebrated our 11th anniversary this summer.
I started my little blog, Closing Time, in March 2009. The title came from a lullaby that my husband, Phil, wrote. In the evenings, when it’s closing time for little eyes, the atmosphere in our home changes. Once the kids are tucked cozily into their beds, the lights are dimmed, and the toys are put away (most of the time). It is the one time of day that I can sit down for a moment and really relax. That is what this blog is, an opportunity to just sit down and have a moment to write and share my heart with you!
I want Closing Time to be a place you can come to be uplifted and encouraged. I want you to know you are not alone. Sometimes my posts may be funny and lighthearted, and sometimes they may not. I want to be honest and real, and sometimes that means there will be bumps in the road and dark days. We all have them. But I want you to know that whatever kind of day you are having, there is hope. My prayer is that you experience the hope I have found in God.
God has amazing ways of surprising us, and blogging has been one of those surprises for me. I started writing here at Closing Time rather reluctantly, after reading other mom’s blogs for about two years. I didn’t know where it would take me, and I didn’t even know I was “supposed” to have a niche! The journey has taken me down unexpected paths, introducing me to some incredible new friends, and even leading me to launch my own blog, web, and eBook design business, Design by Insight.
I write as often as I can in this season of life. Below are links to some of my favorites posts so that you can get a feel for what this blog is like:

More About Me
I’m 34 years old, currently living in South Carolina, and married to my best friend (who happens to be from Australia). Phil and I met while we were both single and missionaries overseas. We were close friends for two years, got engaged, and then went on our first date. Kind of unusual and funny, I know!
I prefer the city over the country, love cultures and ethnic foods, long for four distinct seasons, and could spend the day browsing stock photographs and drinking good, strong coffee. At our house the laundry mountain usually threatens to overwhelm us all.
According to personality tests, I’m exactly halfway between being an introvert and an extrovert. I crave people and solitude all at once. I’m never the life of the party, but I’m a good listener. I’m perfectly capable of talking a lot, too. It just depends on the moment…
I never thought I would homeschool my kids. I just didn’t think I could pull it off. So often God sees more in us than we see in ourselves, and by the time our oldest was ready for K4, we knew it was they way we were supposed to go. We are about to begin our fourth year of homeschool.
